Card rules

Under Card rules the primary and secondary acquirer can be set for each card type received in OnPay.

Primary and secondary acquirer

As shown on the image below, the card rules have been set with Nets as primary acquirer for Dankort (1), while Clearhaus is the primary acquirer for Visa and Mastercard payments (2). We have added Nets as the secondary acquirer for Visa and Mastercard.

The secondary acquirer works as a fallback, if the first acquirer is unavailable. If your agreement for the primary acquirer is terminated you will still be able to receive payments through the secondary acquirer. In other words, it ensures that you will still be able to receive payments when you make changes to your primary acquiring agreement.

Primary and secondary acquirer

To change the primary and secondary acquirer, simply click on a card type and select an acquirer. Select Decline in both fields if you do not have an acquiring agreement for the card type.

Country-specific card rules

In some cases, it can make sense to use one acquirer for payments in one country and another for payments in other countries.

To create country-specific card rules, you first need to create the desired country by clicking Add new country:

Create country for card rules

Then you can assign specific card rules for the newly created country.

In the example below, we have chosen to use Clearhaus as the acquirer for Visa and Mastercard (1), but for payments in Denmark we use Worldline as the acquirer for Visa and Mastercard (2).

This may be relevant if you have entered into a desirable acquiring agreement with an acquirer for a specific country. You can also use this functionality to block payments for a given card type in a specific country.
